Leadership Assigment
ReplyDeleteI think that a good leader is someone who doesn't think of only themselves. In the clip that we watched in class one of the players was telling the quarter back that he was only going to cover for himself, look out for himself. That shows that that player is not a good leader.
I think that being brave makes a good leader. For example, Martin Luther King Jr. was very brave. He basically risked his life for all of his people by standing up for segregation. Martin Luther King Jr. was a very great leader.
I also think that a good leader means somebody who is not bossy. If you are bossy than you wouldn't be co-operating very well. People wouldn't take you seriously. When you are a leader you instruct people to do the right thing and stand up for what is right. For example, a guidence councillors at high schools are good leaders because they tell people what to do but not in a mean or harsh way.
Leadership Response
ReplyDeleteWhat makes a leader is someone who has courage, is responsible and can be characterized as trustworthy, fair and honest. Many people look up to a leader and admire those special qualities he possesses. Individuals want someone that encourages peace and looks for ways to make the world a better place to live. An intermediate student can also display aspects of a leader however there can be negative aspects and positive aspects in their role. One negative quality would be not being able to keep promises that are made to people. Leaders are very often chosen for the issues they promise to address however there are times when these promises are not met. One positive aspect of a leader is having the motivation to take risks when he is challenged. Standing up to someone that makes them feel inferior and speaking out for what they believe in makes a strong leader. Even as an intermediate student or leader, there are people you look up to for many things, like teachers or principals. These are people that have a major influence on younger students, students who will one day be the leaders of tomorrow.
In the clip we viewed in class, one of the players was expressing to the other player that he should stop only worrying about himself and start thinking about the rest of the team. This shows that he is not a strong leader, selfish and not looking out for the best interest of the whole team. Leaders need respect: for themselves, respect for others, and most importantly respect from others! Without this, he does not make a compassionate leader at all!
In my opinion, Gandhi was a true, inspirational leader and had a positive influence on many people. He taught people that hatred, violence and war were not the answer. Many people admired his words of wisdom. This made him a commendable leader with respect across the world.
Leadership Response
ReplyDeleteLeadership means that people follow your example and take the right turn in life. For you to ever get respect, you have to give respect. A good leader is someone who can motivate and excite people about a specific subject. Also, a good leader is someone who takes the time to listen to concerns from members of the team. Sometimes this means taking time to talk to them individually.
Good leadership is based on developing trust in people so that they will follow you. A good leader always has an open mind; he or she also needs confidence in themselves. If they do not have that they will not have the ability to make decisions on their own, but also will not have the inspiration to inspire people and people will not have respect or trust for them. A good leader must be dependable. The people under a leader need to know that the person will be there and stays true to his or her word.
A leader means that you have the right amount of respect for others and yourself, the right amount of strength to handle what he or she needs to do, the right amount of drive and determination, and so on. You also need to be able to make a decision in a split second. So, a leader is someone that cares about other people and what they want and someone who is not selfish but generous.
Leader Ship
ReplyDeleteI believe a good leader is someone that will bring up a group of people when things are not going so well for them. For example a captain of a hockey team like Sidney Crosby if there team is down he will find a way to encourage them to keep on trying and to never give up.
A true leader is also brave because they will fight for there rights at any cause. An example is Rosa Parks she fought for her rights as a person because in the 1950s black people were not aloud to sit in the front of buses and she did and refused to get out to let a whit person sit there and she got arrested for this even though she was young girl.
A leader also cant be bossy he or she must co-operate with everyone. Also when your a true leader you have to be seriously committed to what your leading and never give up and stay strong and keep the ones around you strong. That is my vision of a leader, what's yours?

ReplyDeleteWhat it Takes to be a Leader
ReplyDeleteTo be a leader it takes great responsibility and organization as well as the ability to interact well with people. A leader needs to be responsible and lead by example. For example, if the leader gives a specific time to be present and shows up 10 minutes later, that will show the people who follow him that its ok to bend the rules. A real leader should follow the rules and show how to be responsible.
A good leader also needs organization skills. Making plans ahead of time and not squeezing in people and having a “play it by how it rolls” attitude and taking risks. For example, a leader should be able to keep a schedule and know how long things will take. If events run into each other for 10-15 minutes then you have to ditch one to go to the other plan. An real leader would make sure that he/she can do everything that they need to do at the right times.
I think of what the most important quality of a leader is being able to interact well with people. When you’re a leader you don’t want to be shy and not talk to anyone. For example, if one of your rivals or allies is talking to you, you need to be able to interact properly with them. A good leader will stand up for himself and talk back and say what he wants to say.
You also want to interact well with your employees and be able to deal with them firmly but respectfully.
A great example of a leader is Martin Luther King Jr. He fought for the right of the black people and stood up and faced every black persons fears and gave rights to the black people. This is an example of an amazing leader.
This is my idea of a great leader what is yours?
-Nicholas
I believe a true leader is someone who will stand up for what is right even if there are horrible consequences. For example, Martin Luther King fought for black people to be treated equally to white people even though he could get arrested or assassinated.
ReplyDeleteA true leader has to be brave, fair and smart. A good leader could be Sir William Wallace for leading Scottish rebels against the English army in 1297 and defeating them at the battle of Stirling Bridge. When the English captured him he refused to to swear loyalty to the English King and was killed for his actions.
A leader must treat his people with respect and dignity. If the leader is bossy and does not treat his people with respect his people will turn on him. Muammar Gaddafi was the president of Libya and treated his people unfairly. His people then rebelled against him.
Leadership Response
ReplyDeleteThere are many qualities to a good leader. Like People who aren’t selfish. A leader is basically someone who leads others. Theses are some things that make a good leader:
Someone that is brave and courageous would make a good leader. For example Martin Luther King Jr. and Rosa Parks. They both were brave, courageous and stood up to black segregation. Martin Luther King Jr. won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964 for his great leadership. Someone who is brave and courageous like Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King Jr. make a good leader.
Another thing that makes a good leader is someone who is not bossy. They can tell u what to do but just not be rude about it. For example if a quarterback is the leader and they tell the receiver which play to do it’s not being bossy. But if they say go make me a peanut butter sandwich now then that would be bossy. Therefore one other thing that makes a good leader is someone who’s not bossy.
A good leader is someone who co-operates well with others, is responsible and trust worthy. If someone isn’t trust worthy then how are you going to trust him or her to lead? Also if they don’t co-operate well with others than they they won’t make a good leader. One other thing is if he/she isn’t responsible then they wont be a good leader because you need to be responsible. That’s why I think a good leader is responsible, trust worthy, and someone who co-operates well with others.
Overall I think a good leader is all these things and more. Therefore that’s my idea of a good leader.
~ Sarah
A good leader is made up of good qualities.
ReplyDeleteIn the clip that we watched in class, a football player was telling one of his teamates not to think of only himself, but to lead the team. This takes courage, honesty, patience, trust, inspiration and many more characteristics. When you are a leader you are also a learner. Some leaders have open minds and listen to what the people in their group or community have to say. For example: Gandhi (a leader of India in 1869-1948) led India to independance and inspired many people. He listened to what people had to say and he listened to what their beliefs were. Gandhi made many campaigns for poverty, expanding womens rights and building religious ethnic amity.
A leader has belief in him or herself through thick and thin. Leaders are always reaching their goals because they do not give up no matter how hard it gets. Trust is a big part of leadership because you have to trust all of your teamates and trust they will not back out on you. You have to show them that if you have enough confidence for the whole team the you have enough confidence for yourself.
A leader has to be patient with everyone around them. If he/she is not patient then this can lead to being a toxic leader. A toxic leader is someone who abuses the right of being a leader. This is like using the advantages of working at an ice cream shop. When theres ice cream all around you , you tend to just pick at it just like toxic leaders do to people.
These are just some traits of a good leader. A good leader is to always believe in yourself, never give up , and to always be the last one standing... isnt that being a good leader?
" A good example of leadership is leadership by example"
- Jerry McClain
A leader is someone who is followed and leads others in a posotive way. Some traits of a good leader are: honesty, intelligance, fair-minded, inspiring, couragous, brave and positive. These traits will help a leader be followed and be a guide and role model to others; ecspecially those of younger ages. An example of someone who was a very good leader, and had all of these traits, was Rosa Parks. Rosa Parks is a leader because when she refused to get up from her seat on a bus, and move to the back, just because of the colour of her skin, she set up a series of events that changed history. But most importantly Rosa had been willing to take the first step, which is a highly important quality in leadership. Rosa had the bravery and courage to take a risk when matters weren’t the way they should be.
ReplyDeleteTo be a good leader is also not about telling people what to do, but inspiring them to see what they are capable of, then pushing them, and helping them to get there. Leadership is about unlocking potential, whether individual, or that of a group.
To be a good leader you also need to have, certain specific qualities. In my opinion the qualities of being a good leader are:
Good leaders know themselves, which is important when facing the challenges that a leader may incounture.
A good leader is also about being commited and never giving up.
A good leader has to know that they dont everything.
Good leaders are also open to change and recognize the value of change.
Good leaders also always go the extra mile, and think outside of the box, to make a good, fun experience for all.
Overall, being a good leader can be tough, but being a role model is very important, and learing to have the qualities of a leader will also help you achive lots, and succeed in life.
“Do not follow where the path may lead.
Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.”

ReplyDeleteWhat Makes A Good Leader
ReplyDeleteI think a good leader can be identified many unexpected ways, and the attributes of a leader are not necessarily concrete. At Cedar Glen, so many people stepped up and became leaders in different ways. It was really amazing watching people who would not normally lead, do so. I hope that I came across as a leader in some of those situations. I believe that a leader should be someone who is supportive. Not necessarily the most talented member of the team, but the one who broadcasts everyone else’s talents. A good leader is someone who listens to everyone’s idea and praises them, and takes charge in times of disagreements. However, I know that without teammates, a leader would be nothing. The leader is simply an extension of these teammates, someone who represents them all and has their back, and someone who continues to inspire his or her teammates. A chain is only as strong as its weakest link, and it is a leader’s job to help everyone realize that there is no one weakest link: everyone has their weak points and strong points. In adventure novels, the leader is always the person who makes the decision; someone brave, strong, and levelheaded. For example, in the Percy Jackson book series, Percy Jackson was always the brave one, the fighter, and always had the final say. At Cedar Glen, a leader was the person who had an open mind to everyone’s opinion, and decided which option worked best.
In addition to leadership, I think the most important lesson we learned at Cedar Glen was teamwork. At the beginning of the trip, my activity group acted like an anarchy government. Everyone was shouting his or her ideas but not really paying attention to anyone else’s, and nothing was accomplished. However, soon enough, we all began to work together as a unit, instead of separate parts, and we all got much closer because of it. For example, the first team building exercise we did at Cedar Glen was part of the low ropes course. In this exercise, we all stood randomly on a log, and then, without touching the ground, had to rearrange ourselves in ascending order of shoe size. Unfortunately, I started at the very end of the log, and had to end up at the opposite end. At the beginning of this exercise, we all believed the task to be impossible, but after a few minutes we began to properly work together, and soon enough we completed the task. I am sure every one of us felt so proud. “Managers are people who do things right, while leaders are people who do the right thing.” –Warren Bennis. I think this quote means that to be a leader, you don’t necessarily always have to come up with the ideas, nor does everything you say have to be right, but you give others the chance to shine, and do the right thing for everyone. A leader is not selfish, but encourages teamwork.
Another thing that is an important quality in a leader is vision. It’s crucial that a leader is able to see things that other people do not, and dream about a better world, and then try to make it happen. For example, Steve Jobs saw how to improve the world’s technology, and he went to work trying to make this come true. I think a good leader needs to have true passion about his or her work, determination to succeed, and should try to see how the world could be bettered. Martin Luther King Jr. once said “I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal." Not only did he say these inspirational words, he worked to make his dream reality. I think THAT is the true meaning of leadership.

ReplyDeleteLeadership
ReplyDeleteBy: Ola Sokolowski
A leader is almost like a role model. Everyone looks up to them, and they help their team get through anything. There are many significant qualities every successful leader possesses.
One of these important qualities is trust. When the grade eights were at Cedar Glen, we did many leadership activities, like low ropes for instance. Holding on to our partner, we both had to balance on a steel rope and walk along it. It was a lot harder than it looked! While balancing on the ropes, we had our classmates standing behind us, ready to support us if we stumbled. An immediate reaction is to look behind our back to check if our supporters are ready and paying attention. But moving around too much if not in synch will throw both you and your partner off balance. Therefore, you had to put all your faith in your teammates for keeping you safe. Without trusting your teammates, it would have been impossible to succeed in the low ropes course. As I have shown, many times it is difficult to do everything on your own and you need the support of others.
That leads us onto our next important characteristic. Every good leader must be a valuable team player. If they are inclusive to everyone and considerate to any idea, the rest of the team will follow their lead. The saying, “four hands are stronger than two”, proves an important point. We all know that a group is stronger than one person alone. When we work together, we can accomplish so much more than we could by ourselves. More people also make things easier. For example, at Cedar Glen there was another activity where we had to lift each member of our group through a giant suspended tire, one at a time. It would be extremely difficult if one person had to lift everyone else on his or her own. When we worked together, the weight was distributed and it became a simple task. Another way of being a great team player is by putting others before you. In the case of the giant tire, after we landed safely on the other side, we had to help the others get across. It wouldn’t be responsible or fair to abandon someone.
Lastly, team members take from their leaders’ attitude, whether it be good or bad. A leader should always have an optimistic attitude that encourages the others to keep going and never give up. In the clip we watched in class from the movie ‘Remembering the Titans’, one player told the other,“ attitude reflects leadership”. If the captain is feeling lousy and on the verge of quitting, his team will feel the same way. Instead, the leader must keep calm and optimistic no matter how bad the situation is. To have the whole team working together, everyone must be in a good mood. This comes from how the players treat each other. The leader must be thoughtful of everyone’s feelings, to ensure no one is feeling left out or angry.
In conclusion, a successful leader is responsible, trustworthy, and a good team player. They are considerate of others emotions, and an excellent figure to look up.
